Fotofacial® RF Procedure
The FotoFacial RF procedure is an innovative, non-surgical treatment that uses gentle pulses of light combined with low electrical energy to improve the appearance of skin. Since the FotoFacial RF procedure uses both light energy and radio frequency electrical energy in the same pulse, the improvement in skin texture and wrinkles is dramatically better than seen with other skin rejuvenation treatments using light only.
With the FotoFacial RF procedure, wrinkles can now be diminished as well as redness, sunspots, sun damage, dilated capillaries and rosacea with no down time. This procedure is truly a major advance in the non-surgical, non-invasive treatment of aged skin and wrinkles. How does the FotoFacial RF procedure work?
The procedure is done in a series of five or more full face treatments, usually four to six weeks apart. Each treatment takes 45 to 60 minutes. A new device called the Aurora uses patented technology developed by Syneron. Technically not a laser, the Aurora, delivers a burst of light energy synchronized with a low intensity electrical pulse of radio frequency energy.
This combination produces very efficient heating of dilated blood vessels, darkly pigmented spots, and hair follicles causing these unwanted marks to gradually fade after each treatment.
At the same time, the dermis is heated and the fibroblasts are stimulated to produce new collagen. The new collagen lessens wrinkles and scars, smooths surface texture, shrinks dilated pores, and tightens loose skin. In a recent study conducted by Dr. Bitter and Mulholland, the FotoFacial RF procedure diminished the appearance of fine lines on average about 40% to 60%. This degree of improvement is about twice as much as other non-invasive light and laser based treatments. By following the optical/radio frequency treatment with a second combination of energies, laser and radio frequency, deeper wrinkles, textural unevenness, large pores, and acne scars can be treated even more effectively. The synergistic combination of energies allows for stimulation of collagen at a deeper level than with optical/radio frequency alone.
