What are Dermal Fillers?
Dermal fillers are substances that are injected into the dermis of the skin to reduce lines, wrinkles and folds. They are also used to enhance the fullness or shape of the lips and in some cases, the chin and cheeks.
What are the types of fillers available?
We offer two types of fillers: collagen and hyaluronic acid. At the time of your visit, the provider will discuss which filler might work best for you.
What is the difference between the two fillers?
Collagen is a protein that provides structural support to the skin as well as to the muscle, tendons, and bones. In the skin, collagen provides texture, resiliency, and shape. The two collagen products that we offer are made from human collagen: Cosmoderm® is used for fines lines while CosmoPlast® is used for deeper lines and furrows. CosmoPlast® is also used to define the lip line.
Hyaluronic Acid is a natural sugar. It's also found throughout the body in the skin cartilage, joints and eyes. In the skin, hyaluronic acid fills the place between collagen and elastin fibers. It is hyaluronic acid that provides plumpness to the skin because it attracts and holds in water. It also delivers nutrients to the skin and acts as a cushioning agent.
We offer three kinds of hyaluronic acid products: Hylaform Plus, Captique™, and Restylane®. Hylaform Plus is made from the dermis of rooster combs while Captique and Restylane are made from cultures of Strep bacteria which go through a series of steps to become stabilized and safe for use. Captique™ is similar to Restylane®.
